Lucy

The Socialite Cow

We have this sweet cow named Lucy she's a Jersey ( see picture, it was taken when she was still a youngster).
She has decided now that she is in Wyoming at the ranch that it would be a good time to become a socialite.
She has taken to going visiting the neighbors, it does not matter what kind of fence, she jumps over, walks through or finds a hole and goes along her merry way in with the nieghbors' cows. I guess the old addage of  the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence applies to Lucy.
The funny thing is she has other cows on our side of the fenceto visit with, she gets fed, she just thinks she should visiting.
Then when she is in the nieghbors' pasture she forgets that the majority of the other cows are not her color at all (most are black around there) Lucy is a tan reddish caramel color. So she sticks out like a sore thumb and unlike the beef cows she is a big pet.
When you discover she is gone you go to the nieghbors pasture and take a bucket of her favorite grain and spot her, start calling her name and rattle the bucket and here she will come a running and sometimes she is like the pied piper , pretty soon a whole bunch of other cows will be trailing along in her wake!
Then she will follow you right back up to the house, she'll even follow the truck home again like a big dog!
I often wonder what the attraction is for Lucy to go visiting, is it the gossip with the other cows or is there a handsome young bull she likes over there!!!
